Several weeks ago I got an e-mail from my father, of all people, asking me why I don’t talk about Jerry more. I have gotten comments and e-mails from far off places such as England and Australia and even Pennsylvania asking about Jerry and what he’s been up to and how he feels (he had been trampled by Mr. Peabody one day).
Jerry came to us as he was on the way to a family for their Thanksgiving dinner in trade for 5 bales of hay. I guess this was our first rescue, but Jerry was not just going to be a lawn ornament. His “job” was to keep Leroy company when I went riding, both on and off premises, with Mr. Peabody. This however was an abject failure (as anyone in the area knows) because Jerry screams like he is dying, as soon as Mr. P leaves his sight. We were very close to sending him down the road several times!
I went to Win$sum Ranch Tuesday night to ride in the Tuesday Night Ride (18 People all loping at the same time in 4 different circles! No crashes!). As we were cooling down our horses and chatting, I was introduced to a couple who live about a mile from us. Our house is a 210 year old house, right on the Hudson River, that we spent more than a year gutting and renovating. It’s fairly well known and on a well traveled street. As the husband tried to explain which house was ours, he finally said “they have the goat in with the 2 horses”. The wife: “Ooooh! Jerry’s house!”
Then yesterday, after the best lesson I've had, I came home and found a box on my porch. As I opened the box, working my way through the very well packaged and wrapped obviously priceless and delicate item, my wife and I wondered what it could possibly be. What finally appeared under all the wrap was a gorgeous porcelain figurine of .... Jerry! Now this is not just a porcelain goat or even a b&w Nubian it is a reproduction of Jerry.
One of my very faithful blog readers, Pamela Koo, took the few photos I have posted of Jerry, and sent them off to Colin's Creatures Collection of Porcelain Wooly Animals and had it made.
This isn't the first present I've received from a reader. Mr. P got some great Vegan Cookies a while back. But boy this is one unbelievable thing. And for Jerry!
The figurine has made it's place to some very valuable real estate in our house; the fireplace mantel. My question to my readers is, does having this very quiet, and always clean replica of Jerry, make the real Jerry, more or less disposable!

The “mantle” Jerry is to remind you of how handsome he is when he is silent, clean and dignified looking…just in case you forget from time to time! Not to say the “mantle” Jerry is boring or anything, far from it! I’m partial, but I think he’s quite handsome.
Glad “mantel” Jerry now sports a baling twine necklace. Now the resemblance is remarkable!
I love both Jerries.
It’s hard not to appreciate Jerry. He is Nubian, after all.
